On 13 May 2009 Norferm A/S, a subsidiary of Statoil Norge AS, filed a lawsuit against UniBio A/S concerning European Patent No. 1183326 nozzle-U-loop fermentor and the procedure for the execution of a fermenting process. The jury decided in favour of UniBio A/S, and the patent of protein production/fermentors thereby fully belongs to UniBio A/S.

Progress on pilot factory in Trinidad

19 February 2009. Within two hours the fermentor of the pilot factory was in place. The process was supervised by UniBio A/S Technical Director Gert Bo Helt. The fermentor of the pilot factory is a hundred times smaller than that of a commercial factory.

"Another project aimed at diversifying the economy is the construction and licensing of a plant to produce animal protein from natural gas that is a single-cell protein used as an alternative to soybean. The government has entered into a contract with UniBio Limited with a first-stage pilot plant currently being installed at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) and scheduled to be completed at the end of January 2009."
